Bicycled to work yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised that someone had chopped through the 4-inch thick ice along a path I use. I was expecting to have to walk through that area. Not that there's a chance that whoever did that will read this - thanks!!

The wind was not so cooperative. The *only* day this week that the wind did not come off the water was yesterday. It came very strongly from the WNW, right in my face for 15 solid miles. A great workout, but it could have waited until I was a bit more in biking shape.

I get to speak at four masses over the weekend and try to convince everyone to help out with our financial situation. I drew the short straw on that one...

Did I see snow in the forecast for Sunday into Monday? Peter won't like that now that tennis has started for the season.

I've been spending a lot of time on the reunion planning. Sent out individual email messages to about 70 classmates asking for confirmation of their mailing address. This will aid us when/if we need to send anything in the mail, and also will help track them down later if their email address changes -- I hope.

Even though I work in the industry, I still am amazed how quick and easy it is to email and receive a reply from people as far away from New Hampshire as Hawaii. It's nice to know the connections are there.

Last week was likely the last local cross-country skiing for me, unless we get another storm. I'm looking forward to getting back to bicycling to work soon.

Yesterday, over 20 inches of snow. 27.5 in Boston, setting an all-time 24 hour record for any date/year.

Shoveled many inches of snow off the roof of the garage, as rain is being predicted for this weekend. Since the house has struts supporting the roof at better than the minimum spacing, I'm told this should be sufficient to prevent problems. We'll certainly see... I have gone up on the roof of the house before, but it's not something I'm planning to do now.

Today, over 40 degrees, the snow is sticky and melting. This should reduce potential problems with rain.

We've started working on the DHS 1973 30-year reunion. If by any chance you know anyone at our directory page, and if we don't have the correct address or email address, please let me know. It's hard to keep up with everyone with all the changes going on...

OK. I'm finally getting back to this page. I can't believe anyone is waiting for updates, but here you go.

It's been a mixed winter weather-wise. If anyone followed my ice rink problems from last year, this year is not any better. It's certainly been cold enough, but there have been a couple of key storms that resulted in trouble getting things skate-able. And when the ice was good, the wind-chill was below zero. It's going to take some convincing to make me think it's worth the expense and effort to do this next year.

OK - I can't believe I haven't updated this since August, but computers are never wrong... right??

I ended up bicycling over 1500 miles last year, which is probably a good thing both energy-wise and health-wise.

Unfortunately, if the current weather situation continues, I won't be cycling to work until June!! We've been below 20 degrees (F) all week with a nasty wind. "The bridge" isn't even plowed, so that would be a problem as well.

Still not as cold as 1975/6(?) [I can't remeber which year it was] when I recall that the Cocheco River was frozen all the way to Hilton Park. So far it's not even close, although on the way home from work tonight I saw that it was frozen about a mile away. Great Bay is still not frozen.

The weather has definitely improved lately. I was able to bike to work twice last week, and expect to do so again twice this week. I'll be over 860 miles for the year after tomorrow. Saving gas, reducing pollution, avoiding the traffic on "the bridge", getting almost 2 hours of exercise each day I ride.

Of course, the 860 miles pales in comparison with an acquaintance, Paul, who I talked to last Thursday. He has ridden over 5,200 miles this year!! He doesn't own a car, so he bikes everywhere. He went on a trip around Nova Scotia a couple of weeks ago, which added a few extra miles. Amazing.

Lobster at noon last Sunday -- birthdays to celebrate. Also had steamed clams and beverages of various types, followed up by birthday cake and ice cream. Didn't need any dinner that evening.

Heat finally let up a bit today, with promises for even more relief tomorrow. We'll see.

Managed to break two teeth last night eating dinner. Had a loose filling, I thought, in one tooth that I had mentioned to the dentist about a year ago. Bit into some bread(!) which broke off a piece of one tooth, and then managed to bang that piece into another, breaking that one! Old age setting in?

Trip to the dentist today (grateful for the quick appointment), who patched me up without requiring caps. We'll see how long the patches last.
[I just went to the dentist last week for clean/check, with nothing unusual to report. Guess they can't see into the future...]

Local news that has made it to Boston, and perhaps further. Scary, because it's very near where I work, and anyone at work could have been a target.

Was on vacation. Sorry about that...

Hiked up Mt Washington (in the dark so Jerry could take pictures) and then to the top and down the Great Gulf trail. Hot, humid, and took a while to recover, but better than working.

Bike rides, long walks, ate out almost every night, kept up with the York Singers (concert will be 8/25 in Ogunquit). Didn't see any sharks at Wells Beach when I took a bike ride there, although I did see all the TV station's trucks clogging up the parking lot and streets. York was spared the beach closures, and I'm pretty sure there wouldn't have been any shark bites if the beaches had remained open in Wells.

Back to work. The heat wave continues, and the "greenery" is becoming "brownery"...

Another gap in posting times. Sorry, but not a lot happening here.

I have had several days of cycling to work, going well over 600 miles for the year so far. About 50% more than last year at this time.

Last night I sent out a mailing to all DHS 1973 classmates registered at classmates.com seeking input on our 30-year class reunion. Waiting for replies (thanks Alberta!).

Great fireworks at York Beach last Saturday night. Their 350th anniversary. Just one of the many events they have scheduled for the year.
